Tor-Tis - Better than Nature Not only aesthetically, but also tonewise. Someone's finally managed to reproduce real tortoiseshell picks, with all the sound!
The word ?perfect? should always be used sparingly, but this here is a truly perfect repro! Banning the use of tortoiseshell was a good and senseable thing, no question. There's simply no justification for bringing a species to the brink of extinction, just so a guitarist can create great sound. Picks made from tortoiseshell nonetheless had their own, special sound. Now Tor-Tis has hit the scene. Just to clarify any questions ? Tor-Tis picks are not made from tortoiseshell, nor from any other animal product. Look: Tor-Tis picks (and pickguards) are so close to the real thing, that you practically can't find any differences. The picks also offer the unique attributes of tortoiseshell picks: Each pick is unique ? the structure is always different, just like the animal product, the tortoiseshell, was. Form: Tor-Tis picks are between 1,05 mm and 1,15 mm thick. You have to take them the way you get them. Handcrafted, just the way tortoiseshell picks were. Their shape is never identical, because the material is difficult to craft. Each single pick is freehandidly cut out. Just look at the picture.
Playing will hone off the edges of the pick very slightly and will give your Tor-Tis pick it's own individuality. The way you play guitar will carve the pick, just like the real thing. In effect, you'll get a pick which accentuates your technique. The edges can be polished flat for easier playing. It's just the same with the surface. The picks are delivered unpolished and unfinished, because many musicians find polished surfaces too slippery. You can either polish the Tor-Tis pick with guitar polish, or leave it untreated and rough for better a grip. Handling: The pick offers a good grip. It has a smooth surface, but it doesn't slip.

Tor-Tis picks are quite hard, stiff and require precise picking and
playing, although they're supple at the same time. It's a bit difficult to
exactly describe how they feel to play, it just feels ?natural? or
?right?. The picks create a clear, clean sound which is rich in overtones. The stroke can be heard well, different playing techniques are delivered very clean. You'll hear the difference between a Tor-Tis pick and other picks as soon as you'll compare them. Tor-Tis picks don't swallow any tone, or overemphasize any portion of it. The difference between a Tor-Tis pick and normal plastic picks is like the difference between a good tube amp and a transistor amp. Good tube amps don't let off-key and nasty overtones shine through too much, just like Tor-Tis picks. The sound is cleaner, without necessarily sound ?nice?. If you play all messed up, you'll also receive a bad sound. Who, when, where? Sure, you can take your Tor-Tis pick along and play it anywhere you want, but we really don't recommend you do. The possibility of losing it on stage is too high. It can be used ideally in the studio, in your livingroom (or bedroom), or on a quiet stage with a well-mannered audience. The material does tend to splitter and becomes soft if you hit the strings too hard for too long. Just like tortoiseshell picks used too....
