Their shape allows good control and a sure grip. The bars are made out of brass and are heavily chrome plated for abrasion resistance. All in all, four different bars are available.
This bar was designed by Rick Shubb and John Pearse for eight string instruments. Pearse is known as an acoustic guitarist and for his fine strings. A lot of guitarists like the length of this bar (8,57cm) and the well designed cutaway bullet tip, which helps playing single notes precisely and quickly. Shubb-Pearse SP-2 Peter Grant cooperated with Rick Shubb on this slide. It's extra mass and double cutaway guarantee great control and lots of tone. Shubb-Pearse SP-3 Sally Van Meter designed the SP-3 for playing bluegrass. It's lighter tha the SP-2 and has a different, more basic shape. The SP-3 is very popular with bluegrass and dobro guitarists in the US: Shubb-Pearse SP-4 In regards to its shape, the SP-4 is based on the legendary Stevens Bar. It offers the same high quality Shubb's products are known for. If your used to a Stevens Bar and don't want to try out anything else, yet want your playing to profit from an excellent slide, then this is for you.
